Use of Thesaurus & Word Count in MS Word

The Thesaurus is like a treasure trove of words, ready to help you find alternatives and spice up your writing.

Word Count: Keeping Tabs on Your Words

Word Count is your go-to tool for tracking the number of words in your document. Word Count ensures you’re always in the know.

Step 1: Open Microsoft Word

Step 2: Type or Paste Your Text

Step 3: Access the “Review” Tab

Step 4: Harness the Thesaurus

Example: Click “Thesaurus” to open the Thesaurus pane.

Step 5: Find Synonyms

Example: Imagine you’ve written “happy.” The Thesaurus pane will show synonyms like “joyful” and “content.”

Step 6: Choose a Synonym

Example: Click “joyful” to replace “happy” in your text.

Step 7: Access the Word Count

Example: Click “Word Count” under the “Review” tab.

Step 8: Review Word Count Stats

Example: The dialog box will show, “Words: X,” where X is the number of words in your document.

 

Save Your Document

Don’t forget to save your document with the new synonym(s) and keep track of the word count. Your writing is now both refined and quantified, ready to impress.
