In WordPress, you can easily create a menu with custom links. This is useful if you want to link to external websites, specific blog posts, or any URL that isn’t part of your default pages or categories.
Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard
- Go to your website’s login page (e.g., yoursite.com/wp-admin).
- Enter your username and password.
- Once logged in, you’ll be taken to your WordPress dashboard.
Step 2: Access the Menu Settings
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Menus.
- This is where you can create and manage your site’s menus.
Step 3: Create a New Menu (If You Don’t Have One)
- If you don’t already have a menu, click Create a New Menu.
- Give your menu a name (e.g., “Main Menu” or “Footer Menu”).
- Click Create Menu to save.
Step 4: Add Custom Links to Your Menu
- Find the Custom Links Section
- On the left side, you’ll see several options like Pages, Posts, and Categories. Scroll down to find the Custom Links section.
- Enter the URL
- In the URL field, type the full web address (e.g.,

- Add to Menu
- After filling in the URL and link text, click Add to Menu.
Step 5: Rearrange the Links (Optional)
- After adding your custom link, you can rearrange the order of the menu items.
- Simply drag and drop the links to reorder them as needed.
Step 6: Choose the Menu Location
- Select a Menu Location
- WordPress themes have different spots for menus, such as the Primary Menu (usually at the top) or the Footer Menu.
- Save Your Menu
- Under Menu Settings, select where you want your menu to appear, such as Primary Menu.
- Click Save Menu to save your changes.
Step 7: Review Your Menu
- Check Your Website
- Visit your website and check if the custom link appears in the menu.
- Click on the link to make sure it directs you to the correct URL.
- Make Changes if Needed
- If you want to add more custom links or make adjustments, go back to Appearance > Menus.
- You can easily add, remove, or rearrange custom links here.
Optional: Adding Multiple Custom Links
You can add multiple custom links to your menu by repeating the process. For example, you can link to:
- An external website (e.g.,
https://www.example.com
) - A specific post or page on your site
- Social media profiles (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
To add multiple links, simply repeat the steps above for each one.
