Create 1st Post and Articles

Creating posts and articles on a WordPress blog is a fundamental task that allows you to share content with your audience. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create and publish posts and articles:

Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard

  1. Open your web browser and go to your WordPress login page, usually found at http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin.
  2. Enter your username and password to log in to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to the Posts Section

  1. In the WordPress Dashboard, look at the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click on “Posts” to expand the menu.
  3. Select “Add New” from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Create a New Post

  1. You will be taken to the post editor screen where you can create a new post.

Step 4: Add Title and Content

  1. Title: Enter the title of your post in the “Add Title” field at the top of the editor.
  2. Content: Enter your content in the main editor area below the title. You can use the block editor (Gutenberg) to add various types of content blocks such as paragraphs, headings, images, lists, and more.
    • Paragraph Block: Click the “+” icon to add a new block, then select “Paragraph” to add text.
    • Heading Block: Click the “+” icon to add a new block, then select “Heading” to add headings.
    • Image Block: Click the “+” icon to add a new block, then select “Image” to upload or select an image from the media library.
    • Other Blocks: You can add other types of blocks like lists, quotes, galleries, and more by clicking the “+” icon.

Step 5: Add Categories and Tags

  1. Categories: In the right-hand sidebar, you will see a “Categories” box. Check the box next to the appropriate category or click “Add New Category” to create a new one.
  2. Tags: Below the Categories box, you will see a “Tags” box. Enter tags that are relevant to your post and separate them with commas.

Step 6: Set a Featured Image

  1. In the right-hand sidebar, you will see a “Featured Image” box. Click on “Set featured image” to upload or select an image from the media library.
  2. The featured image will be displayed as the main image for your post on your blog’s front page and archive pages.

Step 7: Configure Additional Settings (Optional)

  1. Excerpt: In the right-hand sidebar, you will see an “Excerpt” box. You can write a short summary of your post here.
  2. Discussion: Below the Excerpt box, you will see a “Discussion” box. You can enable or disable comments and pingbacks for this post.

Step 8: Publish the Post

  1. Once you have added all your content and configured the settings, you are ready to publish your post.
  2. In the top-right corner of the editor, you will see a “Publish” button. Click on it.
  3. A confirmation panel will appear. Click “Publish” again to confirm.

Step 9: View Your Post

  1. After publishing, you can view your post by clicking the “View Post” link that appears at the top of the editor screen or by visiting your blog.

Additional Tips

  • Save Draft: If you are not ready to publish your post, you can click the “Save Draft” button to save your progress and come back to it later.
  • Preview: Click the “Preview” button to see how your post will look before publishing it.
  • Permalink: You can edit the permalink (URL) of your post by clicking on the permalink field below the title.
  • Revisions: WordPress automatically saves revisions of your posts. You can view and restore previous versions by clicking on the “Revisions” link in the right-hand sidebar.
